I remember taking the 7 train out to Flushing Meadows for my finals vs Chrissie Evert in 1978. I was an amateur in all ways!

Pam was the youngest ever U.S. Open finalist when as a 16-year-old amateur, she reached the women's singles final having defeated the reigning Wimbledon champion, Martina Navratilova, in a semi-final 7–6, 7–6. Pam then lost to Chris Evert in the final 7–5, 6–4.
